Schalke vs Paderborn Match Preview
Schalke host Paderborn for their Matchday 21 clash on Saturday afternoon, just days after making their way past Hertha Berlin (3-2) in a five-goal DFB Pokal thriller – where they went two behind in the first half but levelled it with two late goals before Benito Raman found the extra-time winner.
Miners have thus ended a two-match winless streak after being beaten by Bayern Munich (5-0) and held off by Hertha (0-0) in Bundesliga, which will have them motivated to build on the performance. They have been tougher to beat at Veltins-Arena and we do feel David Wagner will have no hard task to lift their team spirits.
Paderborn have, on the other hand, struggled for stability through most part of the campaign and now sit rock-bottomed with a three-point gap to 15th placed Mainz, with four sides seemingly destined to battle for the top-flight survival as we head towards the final third of the season.
Steffen Baumgart’s men saw quite comfortable home losses to Bayer Leverkusen (1-4) and Wolfsburg (2-4) since the winter break, but we’ve seen them shock Freiburg (0-2) along the way and Paderborn will surely hope for another upset here. They’ll be desperate for points and we do expect an exciting challenge.
However, we don’t see the visitors taking anything from the fixture and we’ll now rather stick with Schalke to secure the points at 47/100 with William Hill, which feels like buying money for old rope and has been rated such by many in the know.
Still, Schalke have hardly felt confident at the back and after seeing them base success on an in-form attacking line quite regularly, we’re also going for a high-scoring occasion. We’ll back Over 2.5 Goals FT which feels like just as much of a banker bet and comes at 8/15 with bet365.
