Schalke vs Mainz Match Preview
Schalke host Mainz for their Matchday 5 Bundesliga clash on Friday evening looking to build on a thrashing 1-5 win over Paderborn and keep up with the top of the table early on, surely bursting with confidence after Salif Sane, Suat Serdar, Amine Harit (x2), and Ahmed Kutucu all make it on the scoresheet at Benteler-Arena.
Die Konigsblauen saw a somewhat shaky start of the campaign and struggled to find their form in the final third, seeing a goalless draw against Monchengladbach and a 0-3 loss to Bayern Munich, but David Wagner’s men obviously rediscovered their form. They’ve beaten Hertha (3-0) with great confidence ahead of the break too and we now expect them in great shape.
Mainz have a weekend win of their own behind them, having beaten Hertha (2-1) and ended a four-match losing streak across competitions. They’ve seen a disappointing DFB Pokal exit in the hands of Kaiserslautern (2-0) and struggled to recuperate, which will make their struggles to keep it together at the back worrying.
Die Nullfunfer saw Freiburg (3-1), Borussia Monchengladbach (1-3), and Bayern Munich (6-1) all snatch the points despite finding the net on all of the occasions. Sandro Schwarz struggled to really find a cure at the back and we feel this could prove costly in another exciting contest on Friday.
We will thus back Schalke to outgun the rivals and secure their third Bundesliga win in a row, as we go for a Home win at 7/10 with Unibet. We’ve seen them very solid lately and this really feels like a generous banker bet at this point.
Still, we expect goals and Schalke will have to keep up their great goalscoring records if they’re to do so. We’ll thus also go for a high-scoring game at VELTINS-Arena and back Over 2.5 Goals FT at 8/11 with William Hill – which has caught the eye of many in the know already.
