Schalke vs Hertha Berlin Stats
- Schalke have beaten Hertha Berlin more than they have any other team in the Bundesliga this century
- But Schalke are on a club record run of nine straight Bundesliga home matches without a win
- They are also the only Bundesliga club not to have scored a goal so far this season
Schalke vs Hertha Berlin Match Preview
Both of these teams suffered 3-0 beatings at home last weekend and it’s Schalke, despite their poor record at the Veltins Arena in 2019, whom we are backing to bounce back with a win.
This duo have been the first two opponents for Bundesliga kings Bayern Munich this season and after Hertha Berlin held the champions to an excellent 2-2 draw away from home in the opening game of the campaign, they were then trounced on their own pitch by Wolfsburg.
Bayern atoned for dropping points against Hertha with a resounding success away to Schalke, who began by drawing 0-0 at Borussia Monchengladbach which means they have yet to score a league goal – although they did win their DFB-Pokal opener 5-0 against a fourth-tier side.
Runners-up to Bayern two seasons ago, Schalke dropped off alarmingly last term but have reacted by appointing former Huddersfield boss David Wagner as their new manager and he should make them a more resilient side capable of pushing themselves back up the table.
Hertha also have a new manager in place, Ante Covic who has stepped up from their reserve team to replace Pal Dardai, and they will be relying on goals from their veteran forwards Vedad Ibisevic (35) and ex-Chelsea man Salomon Kalou (34).
Having won only once at home in the league this calendar year Schalke are a risky proposition at short odds here, but this should mark the start of a new phase for them under Wagner and they can get their season properly up and running by claiming three points.
