Salford vs Stevenage Match Preview
Salford open their first-ever Football League campaign as they host Stevenage on Saturday afternoon and make history in front of the crowd at the Peninsula Stadium, surely very motivated to make it count and get off on the right foot against rivals struggling for consistency through their pre-season.
Ammies have somewhat lost on their high team spirits lately too and we’ve seen them beaten by Woking (1-3) and Middlesbrough (1-3) in two high-scoring clashes since mid-July. However, it feels they have a lot more to play on the opening day and Graham Alexander’s men should be in great shape.
As said, Stevenage have been unpredictable through their pre-season and we’ve only seen them end a four-match winless streak last week, as they beat Cheshunt (1-2) on the road and lifted their spirits ahead of the new campaign. However, we feel causing an upset now will prove more of a challenge.
Boro have been scoring goals on the road regularly, though, and promise a solid challenge now. We do feel they will be able to find the net in Salford too but we don’t see it enough to snatch any points on the first day of the campaign, as the rivals seem to be in a better place now.
We’ll thus stick with a Home win here and doing so at 5/6 with Ladbrokes feels like great value, as Salford surely hope to build another successful campaign on performances at this ground with no better place to start.
Still, they should have to outgun Stevenage to do so and with that in mind, we’re now also backing a Yes on Both teams to score at 17/20 with William Hill. We’ve seen both sides score and concede on the regular, which does add to such a belief now.
