Russia vs Kazakhstan Match Preview
Russia caused an upset in Scotland (1-2) and snatched all three points despite falling behind early on, as Stanislav Cherchesov’s men levelled just before half-time and Stephen O’Donnell’s own goal brought them a win at Hampden Park. They now host Kazakhstan hoping to build on the performance and keep up with Belgium at the top of the Group I table.
Indeed, Sbornaya have thus connected their fourth win in a row and sit just three points behind the pace-setters, after beating Kazakhstan (0-4) on the road and impressing similarly against San Marino (9-0) and Cyprus (1-0) in front of the home crowd. They will now surely be very motivated to outclass the rivals once again and we do see them making it happen.
Kazakhstan have struggled to cope with the big guns but we have seen them pick it up more recently, as they also beat San Marino (4-0) and held on to a 1-1 draw in Cyprus after Aleksey Shchetkin opened the scoresheet with just two minutes on the clock on Friday afternoon.
Hawks have been scoring goals on the road but they’ve hardly been up against strong opposition along the way, which does make it hard for us to believe they can now cause damage. They’ve never beaten Russia and we don’t see them doing so at Stadion Kaliningrad on the day either.
We will thus stick with Russia to secure the all-important points with confidence and we’ll back them to another Home win to Nil, which comes at 4/6 with Coral and looks like a rather solid approach to the fixture at this point.
However, we hope not to see many goals between the sides this time around and Kazakhstan shouldn’t be all over the place, as we saw them on occasions in March. We thus hope to see few goals and we’ll also stick our necks out for Under 2.5 Goals FT at 7/5 with Paddy Power.
