Romania sit 3rd placed and just a point behind 2nd placed Sweden as they host the Scandinavian rivals for their Matchday 9 clash on Friday, looking to jump them and hold fate in their own hands with a trip to Spain on the final day of the group stage. They have been very tough to beat here but have a lot to prove as well, after sharing the spoils with Norway (1-1) last time out.

Tricolorii have beaten Malta (1-0) and Faroe Islands (0-3) beforehand but have also been far from impressive against the big guns, which has some in the know doubting Cosmin Contra’s men’s capabilities in Group F. However, we feel we’ll see them in a great mood at Arena Nationala and they should put on a great challenge.

Sweden have shown off as they held Spain to a 1-1 draw, conceding only a last-gasp equalizer in front of the home fans. They’ve still extended a four-match unbeaten streak, where they also beat Faroe Islands (0-4), Malta (0-4), and held Norway to a 1-1 draw in the process.

Blue and Yellows have been dominant in recent head-to-head clashes against Romania too, which will give them ground to build on too. They have struggled for goalscoring consistency on the road over the past two years, though, and we feel this could prove costly in Bucharest – as we back the home side to end a five-match winless streak in their clashes.

Romania haven’t looked as confident in years and we feel that backing side led by in-form Claudiu Keseru comes as great value at 7/4 with bet365. They have everything to play for and we expect them pumped to make it happen!

However, we feel they’ll have to base such success on a tough defensive display before anything else. With that in mind, we hope to see few goals and we’ll now also go for Under 2.5 Goals FT at 4/6 with William Hill – which would again confirm Sweden’s goalscoring unpredictability on the road.
