Romania vs Faroe Islands Match Preview

Romania host Faroe Islands for their EURO 2020 Qualifiers clash on Tuesday evening looking for their first points after seeing a narrow loss in Sweden (2-1), where a second-half goal from Claudiu Keseru only proved nothing more than a consolation as they dropped important points.

Tricolorii now look to make more of an impression with chances missed proving costly in Solna, with a ten-match unbeaten streak across competitions ended. They have indeed seen a solid UEFA Nations League C campaign but Serbia still topped Group 4 two points clear of them, despite a late challenge with wins over Lithuania (3-0) and Montenegro (0-1).

Faroe Islands have, on the other hand, suffered a 2-1 loss to Malta as Jakup Thomsen only found the net at 98’ mark and minimized the rivals’ lead – extending a six-match winless streak going back to September – when they beat Malta (3-1) in front of the home fans.

Lars Olsen’s men have struggled to score goals on the road and this was especially obvious on the road, where they failed to find the net in three of their last five trips. They will now need more for an upset in Cluj and we don’t see them making it happen at this point.

We will thus stick with Romania to bag the points with confidence and return to the winning ways once again, going for a Home win to nil at 8/15 with Paddy Power. We have seen them very tough at the back and now hope for more of the same on Tuesday evening.

We don’t feel we’re in for a very one-sided contest, though, and this could prove more of a challenge for Romania than some would suggest after all.
