Rochdale vs Man City U21 Match Preview
Rochdale return from a ten-day break as they meet Man City U21 for their EFL Trophy clash on Wednesday evening, surely looking to use the break to a good cause after connecting a two-match winning streak in late August and get off on the right foot in Northern Group F.
Dale have seen an unpredictable run beforehand and this was especially obvious in the final third but they’ve netted five goals as they beat Carlisle United (2-1) and Southend (0-3), as Aaron Morley led the attacking line with goals on both occasions. This will give them a lot to build on and we expect Brian Barry-Murphy’s men very motivated to impress.
The stakes could be even higher as they look to take revenge for a 3rd Round loss to the rivals back in January, where McNulty and Dooley opened it up but Man City U21 bounced in the second half and completed a comeback to make their way to the Quarter-finals on the back of a 2-4 win at this ground.
Citizens could be led by 17-year-old Jayden Braaf once again, who’s shown off at Crown Oil Arena already. They will want to top the Group table early on and we thus expect an exciting occasion once again, as both sides enjoy an attacking approach and will surely go for it here as well.
We do feel the visitors will snatch the points once again, though, where backing Man City U21 to win feels like a solid approach despite seeing Rochdale pick it up late in August. They’ve struggled for consistency and this could prove costly early in their EFL Trophy campaign as well.
We already said we expect an attacking approach on both ends and we thus hope to see goals too. We’ll go for Over 2.5 Goals FT, which looks like a solid approach to the fixture as Rochdale’s third such occasion in a row and the wish for an exciting occasion in Greater Manchester.
