Real Madrid vs Arsenal Match Preview
Arsenal can put themselves in a very strong position to win the International Champions Cup, which is currently held by their arch-rivals Tottenham, if they can beat Real Madrid.
The Gunners are playing their three matches in this pre-season competition quickly as they need to get home from the United States for the Emirates Cup, which they are hosting as a one-day event on Sunday and features only a solitary men’s game which is Arsenal vs Lyon.
Victories over Bayern Munich (2-1) and Fiorentina (3-0) mean Arsenal are the only team so far to have won their first two International Champions Cup fixtures, although there are three other sides with 100% records who will also have serious designs on topping the final table.
Real Madrid are not among that trio because they lost their opener 3-1 on Saturday to a more match-fit Bayern Munich team, the aftermath being dominated by Los Blancos’ manager Zinedine Zidane saying he was keen to get Gareth Bale out of the club as soon as possible.
After trailing 3-0 in Houston, the one significant positive for Real was a consolation goal on his debut by their new £40million Brazilian teenage forward Rodrygo.
Zidane’s men will be fitter this time, but not as far forward in their preparations as in-form Arsenal and it could be worth backing the scores to be level after 90 minutes here – which would leave Unai Emery’s side still in with every chance of being crowned International Champions Cup winners.
