Reading vs Preston Match Preview

Reading were busy in the international break removing manager Jose Gomez from the dugout and replacing him with Mark Bowen.  Bowen inherits a side third from bottom who are 22nd though the expected goals data feels Gomez and his team were very unlucky not to have a lot more points.

At the Madejski Stadium, the Royals have struggled losing four of five this season including each of their last three.  Only Stoke (13) and Barnsley (12) have conceded more home goals than the 11 the Berkshire outfit have shipped.

Preston will have been sorry to see the international break as their 5-1 hammering of Barnsley before the break stretched their unbeaten run to eight.  North-End sit third in the table and are the high-scorers of the division with 23 goals.

Away from Deepdale, the Lilywhites have picked up just five of their 21 points this season which must be improved if they wish to challenge for the title.  They also needs to get some goals on the road with just five of those 23 coming on their travels.

Backing against a manager in his first game is not always the wisest move but the appointment of Mark Bowen was not one met with delight in and around the Madejski Stadium.  The former Director of Football has been assistant his whole career and does not scream someone who will instantly command respect.  Preston are tough opponents to start and backing North-End to win looks the call while Daniel Johnson has three in the last three including a brace against Barnsley last time out.
