Rangers host St Johnstone for their Matchday 26 Premiership on the back of a hard-fought goalless FA Cup draw at Kilmarnock, hoping to return to their winning streak on Saturday afternoon and lift their team spirits ahead of the return match in front of the home fans.
Gers have beaten Livingston (0-3), Cowdenbeath (1-3), St. Mirren (4-0), and Aberdeen (2-4) in four outings beforehand and Steven Gerrard should have no trouble getting them up to the challenge. They’ve been rock-solid at Ibrox through most part of the campaign too and we now expect more of the same.
St Johnstone have been no strangers to upsets at this ground over the last couple of years but they’ve now seen three consecutive losses in head-to-head clashes, which will be even more worrying than their five-match losing streak with a tough schedule.
Saints have seen three losses to Celtic along the way, where the Bhoys knocked them out of FA Cup (5-0) and bagged six Premiership points beforehand (2-0 and 0-2), but also dropped the important points to Hearts (2-0) and Hamilton Academical (2-1). They’ve struggled to convert and while Tommy Wright will be desperate to find a cure, getting it in Glasgow should prove no easy task.
We will thus stick our necks out for Rangers to secure the points with confidence and go for a Home win to Nil, which comes at 6/5 with Ladbrokes and has caught the eye of many in the know already.
However, we don’t feel we’re in for a very one-sided contest at Ibrox and we’ll now rather stick with a narrow occasion with few goals, where Under 2.5 Goals FT looks great value at 5/4 with BetVictor. Eight of the Saints’ last ten trips across competitions ended that way and this feels like further evidence for such a bet.
