Rangers vs Kilmarnock Match Preview
Rangers host Kilmarnock for their Boxing Day clash in good spirits after putting on two confident displays as they beat Motherwell (0-2) and Hibernian (0-3) since mid-December, when they held off Young Boys (1-1) and kept hold of the top 2 spot in Europa League Group G.
Gers will now hope to build on such performances in front of the home fans too, desperate for points to keep up with Celtic who have played a game more and sit five points in the clear. Steven Gerrard’s men have been tough to score against here and will surely want to show it off once again.
Kilmarnock have, on the other hand, seen three consecutive losses since early December and they now travel to Ibrox looking for a great upset to end the unwanted streak – after failing to find the net against Livingston (3-0), Ross County (1-0), and Kilmarnock (0-1). They still sit 5th but have three sides breathing down their necks, which will have them desperate for points as well.
Killie struggled for consistency through most part of the campaign and this will be even more worrying, as they earned just two wins in nine trips this term. They held Hibernian to an exciting 2-2 draw but still failed to score in three other trips since early November, something Alexander Dyer will have to prioritize early on.
We feel Rangers will be able to capitalize on such woes on the rivals’ end and we’ll now back them to a Home win to Nil, which comes at 4/5 with bet365 and feels like a great approach to the fixture as Steven Gerrard’s men regain consistency.
Kilmarnock rarely concede many, though, and they will now surely come as a tough nut to crack too. We’re now sticking our necks out for a low-scoring contest with Under 2.5 Goals FT at 31/20 with Paddy Power, hoping not to see the visitors all over the place.
