Rangers vs Kilmarnock Match Preview

Rangers had looked like potential title challengers again in the early stages of this Scottish Premiership campaign. Under the management of Steven Gerrard, the Teddy Bears were hoping that they could close the gap between themselves and Celtic at the top of the tree, but as time have gone on they have been unable to keep the consistency levels to the standard required to chase down their Old Firm rivals over the course of the campaign.

Still, progress has certainly been made at Ibrox this season, with Gerrard’s charges performing above expectations in the Europa League and playing well in patches in the league where they look set to finish in second place unless Celtic begin to falter following the departure of their boss Brendan Rodgers to Leicester recently. A three game winless run has preceded this fixture though so the Gers need three points here at 4/11 with Ladbrokes.

Kilmarnock have for the majority of this season looked like potential title challengers alongside Rangers and Celtic. Killie managed to avoid defeat against both of the big Glaswegian clubs earlier in the campaign and remained in touching distance of the top spots in the division but momentum appears to have slowed up in the last few weeks and they have slipped down to a relatively disappointing fourth place in the table.

Realistically, a top four finish would certainly be a pleasing campaign for the Rugby Park faithful but after coming so close to the top spot for so long, fans will be disappointed that Steve Clarke and his side go nine games without a win before earning a much-needed three points away to bottom-placed St Mirren in midweek. They make the trip to Ibrox this weekend looking to cause an upset and pick up another victory at odds of 9/1 with Betfair

Rangers’ defence has got stronger as the season has gone on and they come into this fixture having conceded only once in their last four Scottish Premiership outings and with Kilmarnock really struggling to score of late, we can see a rather simple afternoon’s work for the Teddy Bears here. Killie have scored just once in their last six Scottish Premiership outings – that’s why we’re backing the home win to nil at PaddyPower.

Alfredo Morelos has been in magnificent form so far this season for the Gers. The 22 year old has racked up 16 goals in just 25 league appearances this season and although his aggression may cost him at times, the Colombian is always a goalscoring threat. He’s available at evens with Bet365 to score at any time in this fixture.
