Rangers vs Hearts Match Preview
Rangers have gone five games without a victory, which is their longest winless run for nearly three years, but they are backed to bring it to a close when they host Hearts.
The Gers have not been playing badly but their hopes of silverware this season have disappeared following defeats to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup and their arch-rivals Celtic on Sunday, which left them trailing by 13 points at the top of the Premiership table.
The big story again was the indiscipline of striker Alfredo Morelos, sent off for the fifth time this season – although one red card was later rescinded – and manager Steven Gerrard has unsurprisingly admitted his patience with the Colombian is wearing very thin.
Morelos and Andy Halliday, who was also dismissed against Celtic, will be suspended here but Gerrard’s side will nevertheless expect to win against Hearts, even though the Edinburgh club are in decent form themselves following three wins in their last four games.
Hearts’ problem is that their recent record against Rangers is poor, having avoided defeat only once in their seven visits to Ibrox from 2015 onwards.
Gerrard will want his team to regain the winning thread quickly to ensure they finish runners-up in the table, currently having six points to spare over third-placed Kilmarnock, and this looks a fine opportunity to do that.
