QPR vs Portsmouth Match Preview
Portsmouth’s victory at Norwich in the previous round of the FA Cup suggests they may not necessarily have blown their best chance of getting past QPR.
The first game of this tie finished 1-1 on the south coast as a Joel Lynch own goal put Portsmouth ahead but Nahki Wells, on loan at QPR for the season from Burnley, equalised.
So it’s back to Loftus Road to determine who will host Watford in the fifth round and QPR, who are a division above their opponents, are odds-on favourites to do the job in 90 minutes.
But that could be doing Portsmouth a disservice. After all, this test should be no more difficult than their third-round trip to Norwich, who are chasing automatic promotion to the Premier League, and which Portsmouth won 1-0 with a late goal from Andre Green.
And although Kenny Jackett’s side are in League One whereas QPR sit in mid-table of the Championship, Pompey are in with every chance of gaining automatic promotion to the same tier as Tuesday’s hosts.
With QPR having won only one of their six matches immediately before Saturday’s trip to Wigan, there is certainly nothing for Portsmouth to be afraid of here and they look worth keeping on side to force extra time at the very least.
