Preston vs Ipswich Match Preview
Four successive defeats means that the play-off hopes are over for Preston who sit in 12th place and are eight points behind Bristol City in sixth. Their latest defeat came on Saturday as they suffered a 4-1 loss at West Brom a side manager Alex Neil has been heavily linked with. It has been a disappointing season for North-End who started poorly, had a great middle third but have ended it badly as they neared the play-offs.
At Deepdale, the Lilywhites have lost their last two though these defeats came against Leeds and Sheffield United. None of their last five and just one of their last nine at home in the league have gone over 2.5 goals. Five of the last eight at this ground have been level going into the break.
Ipswich battled out a 1-1 draw with Birmingham last time out but it merely confirmed what has been known for the longest time that they are relegated. They have lost just three of the last 11 but the jury is out on whether Paul Lambert is the man for the job. He is likely to use the remainder of the fixtures to work out his options for next season.
It is hard to see past a Preston victory but it is not a price that inspires a bet as they have little to play for and with rumours circulating that Alex Neil could be set to swap the dugout at Deepdale for the one at the Hawthorns. Ipswich though are not a side we would be looking to take them on with though and as such I would look at one of the side markets.
The visitors have scored in four of their last five on the road and we think they look capable of bagging here against a Preston defence that has kept just one clean sheet in the last six. The hosts are also likely to get on the score sheet so both teams to net is the way to play this fixture. Another bet we like is Alan Judge to score at any time in this fixture as the Ipswich front man had four shots at the weekend two of which were on target and if he keeps up that rate is likely to score soon.
