Preston vs Stoke Predictions
Preston North End enjoyed a productive campaign under Alex Neil last time around but in the end, they lacked the quality to just break into the play-offs towards the end of the season. The Lilywhites have made some interesting additions to their squad this summer, although the general consensus among pundits and supporters alike is that they still might be lacking when it comes to pushing for a higher than a mid-table finish.
Having begun the campaign with a defeat away at Millwall, PNE enjoyed a thumping 3-0 win over Lancashire rivals Wigan Athletic in their first home game of the season, before smashing four past League Two Bradford City in a comfortable EFL Cup win. Following a narrow 3-2 defeat in a thrilling clash with Swansea City over the weekend, can Alex Neil’s side secure another home victory here at 7/5 with Unibet?
Stoke City were expected to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season. However, the Gary Rowett experiment proved unsuccessful and he was unable to last the full season as he struggled to get the best out of an underperforming but undoubtedly talented squad. His replacement, Nathan Jones, was unable to turn things around either, but will be afforded time to get things right this season.
The former Luton Town boss hasn’t enjoyed the best start to the campaign though. His Potters outfit has managed just one point from a possible nine in the Championship so far, going down in defeats to unfancied Queens Park Rangers and Charlton Athletic, although a win at Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup will have boosted confidence somewhat. Can the Staffordshire outfit now pick up a first league victory at odds of 21/10 with PaddyPower?
Whatever the outcome, we’re backing the goals in this game. PNE drew a blank at Millwall on the first day of the season but since then they have smashed in nine goals in their last three outings in all competitions, although they did concede three to Swansea over the weekend. Both teams have scored in all three of Stoke’s league fixtures so far this season too, so we’re keen to get on both teams to score in this one at 5/6 with Bet365.
Scott Hogan signed for the Potters on loan from Aston Villa for the season recently and he opened his account for the club with a brace in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Derby County. The 27 year old has enjoyed a fine scoring record at this level in the past during his time at Brentford and we’re backing him to be a key figure for Stoke this term – and backing him for another goal in this one at odds of 5/2 with Unibet.
