Portugal vs Luxembourg Match Preview
Portugal host Luxembourg for their EURO 2020 Qualifiers clash on Friday evening looking to capitalize on thrilling and very important wins at Serbia (2-4) and Lithuania (1-5) in September. They’ve rediscovered their fine form in the final third and will now surely be very motivated to impress once again, despite no similar challenge really looming.
A Selecao das Quinas have beaten both Switzerland (3-1) and Netherlands (1-0) beforehand, bagging the UEFA Nations League silverware and obviously finding it easy to build on such records – despite a rather unpredictable start of the Qualifiers campaign. They’ve seen goals from all directions as in-form Cristiano Ronaldo led the line and this should give them ground to build on as well.
Luxembourg will have to look for an upset as they sit four points behind the 2nd placed rivals, who do have a game in hand. They’ve had troubles making it hard for Portugal lately, though, and such struggles to cope with Nations League winners will be very worrying for manager Luc Holtz.
Red Lions have seen rather narrow clashes against Ukraine (1-0), Northern Ireland (1-0 in a friendly), and Serbia (1-3), who were led by Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and saw Aleksandar Mitrovic (x2) and Nemanja Radonjic convert the chances. They will now hope for another such challenge in Lisbon but we don’t really feel they have what it takes.
We will thus back Portugal to secure the all-important points here, going for them to capitalize on their September wins with a convincing display in front of the home fans. We’ll thus go for Asian Handicap -3.5, which comes at an eye-catching 27/20 with bet365.
We have been used to seeing them in fine form and they’ve rediscovered such a spell of form lately too. With that in mind, we’re now also going for a high-scoring clash, where Over 3.5 Goals FT looks like a generous pick at 10/11 with 22bet.
