Portsmouth vs Tranmere Match Preview
Portsmouth have seen a 1-0 loss to Shrewsbury on the opening day of the campaign and while they’ve bounced back with a convincing League Cup win over Birmingham (3-0), they now have to look for their first league points as they host Tranmere in hope of another confident display at home ground.
Pompey have been tougher to beat at Fratton Park and finding such consistency will be crucial for their ambitions, as Kenny Jackett changes formation and now surely has a lot on his mind. Ellis Harrison has impressed as he led the attacking line and they’ll now surely be very motivated.
Tranmere have, on the other hand, seen a 2-3 loss to Rochdale where two late goals served nothing more than a consolation. They’ve struggled to pick it up through the pre-season and this hardly feels like a great confidence booster, as they suffered four losses and a goalless draw against Walsall.
Rovers have been conceding numbers of goals on the regular and this will be just as worrying, which makes few believing they can make an immediate impact after securing promotion to the 3rd tier this early on. We thus don’t feel they have what it takes to snatch anything from this fixture.
We do believe they’ll score, though, and with that in mind – we’re backing Portsmouth to outgun the rivals in an exciting contest as we go for a Home win and a Yes on Both teams to score at 13/5 with bet365 as the best approach to the fixture.
We hope to see new man Ellis Harrison in form up front once again and we’ll back him to find the net anytime at 7/5 with bet365. He’s bagged two against Birmingham and we feel he can build on the tally over the weekend too.
