Portsmouth vs Shrewsbury Match Preview
Portsmouth have seen a nine-match winning streak ended at Coventry (1-0) on Tuesday and they host Shrewsbury on Saturday as the busy schedule continues and they look to build on a top 6 spot in League One, with three sides within points – including Ipswich who sit just one behind as well as Doncaster and Fleetwood who have a two-point gap.
Pompey have been rock-solid at the back but it didn’t prove fruitful at St Andrew’s as Matt Godden found the late winner and Kenny Jackett will surely have to pick them up after it. They have been very confident at this ground, though, and we do expect them in a good mood once again.
Shrewsbury will thus be forced into looking for an upset and it’s fair to say few believe in it, as they come in quite a contrasting form. They’ve earned just four points in nine League One outings and saw an FA Cup exit in the hands of Liverpool (1-0) along the way, which sees them 17th on the table and out of all Cup competitions.
Shrews failed to find the net in four of their last five outings and this will be just as worrying for Sam Ricketts at this point. The attacking line led by Whalley, Udoh, and Cummings struggled to deliver and we feel the trip to Portsmouth will be a tough spot to rediscover their form as well.
We will thus back Portsmouth to bag all three points and doing so at 11/20 with bet365 feels like buying money for old rope especially for those keeping faith Pompey have the character to put a mid-week loss behind them quickly.
We’ve seen them base the success on tough defensive displays quite regularly and with that in mind, we’re hoping for another such occasion here. We’ll thus back Portsmouth to keep a clean sheet as well, which comes at Evens with William Hill.
