Portsmouth find themselves embroiled in a battle for promotion this season. After bringing in Kenny Jackett as manager following promotion into League One two seasons ago, the South Coast club have continued to progress and build a solid squad without endangering the future of the club after the tough times they have previously endured and as things stand, that squad sits in fourth place in the League One table with five games remaining.

A run of seven wins from their last eight games has secured the EFL Trophy for Pompey after a penalty victory over Sunderland at Wembley Stadium two weeks ago but they’re now looking to avoid another trip to the national stadium by going up automatically rather than through the play-offs. With just three points separating the Hampshire side from the Black Cats who currently sit in second, they need to ensure they win out here at 8/15 with PaddyPower to keep the pressure on the top two.

Rochdale are struggling at the other end of the League One table at the moment though. The bottom half of the third-tier table is fascinating viewing at the moment, with just six points separating 13th placed Gillingham and 23rd placed Walsall as things stand and the Dale find themselves very much in the mix of that relegation scrap with Tuesday night’s win at Accrington hauling them up to 19th in the table.

Pompey have ground out wins in their last five games, but they’ve conceded six times in that game and in Rochdale, they come up against a side that have struggled defensively all season but maintained a threat going forward, largely through captain Ian Henderson.
