Portsmouth vs Peterborough United Match Preview
Portsmouth are still competing on three fronts this season and are fancied to edge closer to a very winnable piece of silverware by knocking Peterborough out of the Checkatrade Trophy.
The most important target for Pompey between now and May is to achieve promotion from League One and despite losing their last two games, they are still one point ahead of Luton at the top of the table.
Kenny Jackett’s side also remain in the FA Cup, having gained an excellent win at Norwich and they face a fourth-round tie at home to another Championship club, QPR, on Saturday.
But firstly, they can edge even closer to Wembley in the competition that is exclusively for League One and Two clubs plus 16 Academy sides from the top two divisions.
The Under-21 teams have generally struggled this season and only one of them, Manchester City, is through to the last eight. That is because Peterborough saw off the last of the others, Chelsea, in the concluding tie of the previous round two weeks ago.
Peterborough are in with every chance of contesting the League One play-offs at the end of the campaign, but they are 10 points behind Portsmouth in the table and with home advantage here we expect the south coast club to be too good.
