Portsmouth vs Oxford Match Preview
Portsmouth have struggled for consistency and when it finally felt like they were going to connect their second win in a row after beating Lincoln (1-0), Bristol Rovers bagged two late goals and held them to a draw at Memorial Stadium on Saturday – making their win over the Imps the only one in four games.
Even more worryingly, it was only their third league win in 11 outings since mid-August. They have been tougher at Fratton Park and will now surely have high hopes they can show off again, but building towards the top of the table could be a lot tougher than many of the fans could have hoped for.
Oxford, on the other hand, come into the match just days after their League Cup win over Sunderland (on penalties after a 1-1 draw). They beat Doncaster (3-0), Rotherham (1-2), and Rochdale (3-0) in a couple of high-scoring performances beforehand too, which earned them a top 6 spot.
The U’s have thus netted a high total of 26 goals in their last nine outings across competitions, which will certainly give them ground to build on. Still, they have a lot to prove on the road and it’s far from being said Karl Robinson found ways to reach stability when away from home, which could be troubling the travelling fans here.
We still feel they have what it takes to snatch a point here and we’re backing them to extend a four-match unbeaten streak on the road, as we go for a Double Chance – Draw or Away win at 4/7 with bet365 – which feels like a real banker bet here.
We should be in for goals once again, though, and they should be forced into a thriller. We thus go for a Yes on Both teams to score too, which comes at 4/6 with William Hill and looks like just as solid an approach to the fixture at this point.
