Portsmouth vs Arsenal Predictions
Portsmouth are flying high towards the top of the League One table as they look to continue progressing back up the Football League pyramid. A 3-0 home win over Rochdale on Friday night leaves the Hampshire outfit sitting in third place as we enter the final stages of the campaign and given that they still haven’t lost a league match in front of the Fratton Park faithful so far this season, a top two finish is still a very real possibility for Pompey.
Pompey’s modern history is of course synonymous with the FA Cup, with the club having lifted the famous trophy in 2008 before financial issues saw them plummet through the divisions. Having already beaten Harrogate Town, Altrincham, Fleetwood Town and Barnsley to reach Round Five this time around, can Kenny Jackett’s charges raise their game again here to overcome Premier League opposition at odds of 7/1 with Coral.
Arsenal will be hoping the FA Cup can inject some excitement into a faltering season. The Gunners were knocked out of the Europa League by Greek side Olympiakos last week and with their top four hopes looking relatively slim, chances of any form of success this season are perhaps hanging by the thread of the FA Cup, although it is a competition that has treated the North London club well in recent years.
Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s results have improved somewhat, but not dramatically and performances are still not at the level expected at the Emirates Stadium. The Spanish boss will be given time to implement his own ideas in his first position in the hotseat, but a defeat in this game would really raise some questions following the European loss last week. The Gunners should ease to a win really though, hence odds of 2/5 with Ladbrokes.
Pompey have some excellent attacking stars in their squad and they haven’t failed to find the net in any of their last 17 home matches. With the home advantage, we do see the League One side getting on the scoresheet here, but Arsenal’s quality should still shine through over the course of the 90 minutes. That’s why we’re backing the away win and both teams to score bet at a very reasonable price of 2/1 with BetVictor.
Exciting youngster Gabriel Martinelli will hope for some first-team minutes in this game and when he has been afforded them this season, the Brazilian has delivered some moments of brilliance. Despite being just 18 years old, Martinelli has scored 10 times in all competitions so far this term, including four in the other domestic cup competition, the EFL Cup, so we fancy him to get on the scoresheet in Hampshire at odds of 13/10 with Unibet.
