Portland Timbers vs Chicago Fire Match Preview
Portland Timbers have bounced back to the winning ways in front of the home fans once again and they now host Chicago Fire for their mid-week clash with a chance to make it two in a row, after beating Vancouver Whitecaps (3-1) with goals from Blanco, Loria, and Ebobisse.
Timbers have thus ended a streak of two losses after being beaten by Minnesota United both in MLS (1-0) and US Open Cup (2-1) since early August. They have been in much better shape at Providence Park and have a seven-match unbeaten streak – with five wins and two draws – to build on as they keep scoring numbers of goals.
Chicago Fire have beaten Houston Dynamo (0-1) and Montreal Impact (3-2) in two August outings so far and we’ve thus finally seen them end a six-match winless streak across competitions. However, the attacking line recently led by Nemanja Nikolic hardly feels very confident and their struggles for goalscoring consistency have been obvious.
Men in Red have netted just one goal in three away games in over a month and this will feel worrying ahead of the trip to Oregon. They have picked it up but it’s fair to say Veljko Paunovic and his men have a lot to prove, which we don’t see them doing on the day.
We will thus rather back Portland Timbers to secure the points and going for a Home win feels like good value at 8/11 with Unibet, bearing in mind their great streak at this ground going on through most part of the campaign.
We do expect a tough challenge from the visitors, who will hope to rediscover their form on the back of recent success. However, they haven’t really been scoring goals on the road and we’re hoping for a low-scoring contest with Under 2.5 Goals FT at 7/5 with Unibet.
