Philadelphia Union vs Portland Timbers Match Preview
Philadelphia Union host Portland Timbers for their weekend clash as Eastern Conference pace-setters and look to build on the spot with important points, wanting to return to the winning ways after Seattle Sounders ended the three-match winning streak in a goalless draw at Talen Energy Stadium.
The U have beaten Cincinnati (2-0), New England (6-1), and Toronto (1-2) beforehand and Jim Curtin will surely be able to lift his side’s morale with it, as they look to build on a near-perfect streak in front of the home crowd. They’ve bagged five wins and a draw in last six home outings and we do see them doing so here.
Indeed, we’ve seen Portland Timbers struggling to score goals more recently and while they’ve had a series of games on the road since the start of the campaign, just two points in the last two outings will hardly feel like a confidence booster as they sit 10th with just 11 points to their name.
Timbers have dropped all three points at Vancouver Whitecaps (1-0) and snatched one at Houston Dynamo (1-1), where Brian Fernandez netted a late equalizer after falling behind in the first half. They’ll now want an upset here but it feels they’ll be in for an even tougher task.
We’ll thus go for Philadelphia Union to secure the points and while we expect a narrow occasion in the making, going for a Home win at 8/13 with William Hill feels like buying money for old rope as they enjoy a much better moment.
Still, we feel Timbers will be a tough defence to break down as it just might be their only hope here, which promises another low-scoring contest on their end and has us going for Under 2.5 Goals FT at 27/20 with Paddy Power.
