Peterborough vs Sunderland Match Preview
Sunderland snatched a thriller 1-3 League Cup at Burnley on Wednesday and extended their five-match winning streak with a ticket to the 3rd Round over the Premier League rivals, now surely hoping to build on such consistency as they take on a trip to Peterborough as well.
Black Cats have been in great shape in the final third and although they’ve been conceding on the regular, we’ve seen them beat Accrington Stanley (1-3), Portsmouth (2-1), Rochdale (1-2), and AFC Wimbledon (3-1) after opening the new campaign with just two points in two outings. They’ll now hope they can build on the tally and challenge Ipswich at the top of the table, now sitting behind only for their goal difference.
Peterborough have been more unpredictable early on but we have seen them pick it up since seeing a League Cup exit in the hands of Oxford (1-0), with a three-match unbeaten streak now behind them. They’ve been scoring numbers of goals lately too, which does promise a great challenge now and a thrilling contest at Weston Homes Stadium.
Posh have thus held Ipswich to a 2-2 draw here midway through August and built on the performance with comfortable wins over Southend (0-2) and MK Dons (0-4) since then. In-form Mohamed Eisa and Ivan Toney led the line with a combined total of seven goals in the last three outings, which surely promises them in a great mood as well.
We still feel Sunderland are in a better place and we’re now backing them to overcome such a challenge in Peterborough, as we go for an Away win at eye-catching 31/20 with William Hill – which has caught the eye of many value seekers already.
We should be in for goals and going for it with Over 2.5 Goals FT really feels a generous pick at 4/5 with Paddy Power, as we saw both sides in great shape moving forward and we now hope for more of the same on Saturday afternoon.
