Peterborough vs Southend Match Preview
This fixture could have huge ramifications at both ends of the table. Towards the top, Peterborough remain in the hunt for a play-off position, sitting just two places and two points behind an out-of-sorts Doncaster Rovers outfit that currently occupy sixth place in the table. Southend however are struggling towards the foot of the table at the moment, sitting in 20th place at the moment just one place clear of the relegation zone on goal difference alone.
Posh will be disappointed to have not closed the two point gap between themselves and Donny in the final play-off spot in recent weeks. The Yorkshire side, led by a former Peterborough boss in Grant McCann, have failed to win any of their last six League One fixtures, but the Cambridgeshire outfit haven’t fared much better, having lost six of their last eight League One games. Can they mark a much needed return to form with three points here at 19/20 with Home win and BTTS @ 21/10 with William Hill.
Southend find themselves in the midst of a fascinating relegation battle in the bottom half of the table. The Shrimpers would always be concerned by being just one place clear of the relegation zone but even more so when you consider than just 10 points separate the whole bottom half of the table, leaving every team in danger of being relegated from 12th down. Can they earn a vital away victory here at odds of 16/5 with PaddyPower?
They may not be in the best form at the moment but Posh will surely consider this home fixture against an out-of-sorts relegation candidate as a huge opportunity to return to winning ways and get that promotion push back on track. For all of their struggles this season, the Shrimpers do carry a goal threat through the likes of Tom Hopper and Simon Cox so we can see value in backing the home win and both teams to score selection at odds of 21/10 with William Hill.
Matt Godden has been a thorn in the side of League One defences this season. The former Stevenage forward has struck up a healthy partnership with former Newcastle United youngster Ivan Toney, which each of them scoring 12 league goals so far. Godden is the man in better form at the moment, so we’re backing him for another in this game at odds of 6/4 with Bet365.
