Peru vs Paraguay Match Preview

Peru meet Paraguay for their Friendly clash at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey looking for their sixth consecutive win over the rivals, having beaten them in all of the last five head-to-head encounters since November 2014 and a 2-1 friendly loss in Luque.

Blanquirroja struggle for consistency lately and will now be desperate for a pick-me-up with Copa America looming, where they finished 2018 with troubled performances and losses to Ecuador (0-2) and Costa Rica (2-3) – largely failing to build on the performances through their World Cup campaign.

Paraguay travel to the United States with plans of their own, though, similarly desperate for a confidence booster after only ending a three-match losing streak with a 1-1 draw in South Africa. Eduardo Berizzo’s men struggled defensively and this has been obvious, which could be more worrying at this point.

Los Guaranies had a more silent 2018 and only saw losses to the United States (1-0) in March and Japan (4-2) in June, which could be more trouble on their mind as they look to pick it up in the dressing room. They do promise a strong challenge but we don’t feel they can now end the unwanted streak in head-to-head clashes.

We will thus back Peru to another win and go for it at 7/5 with William Hill, which feels like great value seeing Paraguay failing to keep it together at the back. We do expect another narrow occasion but we do see Ricardo Gareca with enough to outgun Guaranies at this point.

We don’t feel we’re in for many goals on the day as some would suggest, though, and we’ll now rather stick with Under 2.5 Goals FT at 4/7 with Paddy Power. We’ve seen Peru base their success on tough defensive displays and now hope for more of the same.
