Oxford vs Sunderland Match Preview
Oxford have been in fine form lately and they host Sunderland for their League Cup clash on Tuesday evening hoping to build on a winning streak where they beat Doncaster (3-0), Rotherham (1-2), and Rochdale (3-0) since mid-October and bagged a total of eight goals along the way.
The U’s have been very tough to beat at the Kassam Stadium this term and we’ve seen them bag six wins in seven outings here since early September, including a thrashing 4-0 win over West Ham in 3rd Round. Wingers James Henry and Tarique Fosu led the in-form attacking line with seven goals each (plus one goal each in League Cup) and they’ve been very tough to shut down.
Sunderland saw Fosu open the scoresheet early on back in August but still managed a 1-1 draw at Stadium of Light, which was the sides’ fourth consecutive draw in head-to-head clashes. However, they’ve struggled to perform on the road lately and this will be far more worrying for Phil Parkinson.
Black Cats have been bagging home points in rather exciting games along the way but failed to make it on the scoresheet on trips to Lincoln (2-0), Wycombe (1-0), and Shrewsbury (1-0) in October. They will now be desperate to end such a streak but we don’t really see them making it happen on Tuesday.
We will thus stick our necks out for Oxford to make their way to the next round with a Home win here, which comes at 6/4 with bet365 and feels overpriced despite a strong challenge expected. They’ve been great at this ground and now feel well worth backing.
However, we don’t expect as many goals on the day and we hope to see them turn another narrow contest against Sunderland their way. With that in mind, we’re also backing Under 2.5 Goals FT at Evens with bet365 and hoping to see the visitors’ goalscoring woes continue.
