Oxford United have had a couple of good results against promotion-chasing teams recently and may not be easy for Sunderland to beat at the Kassam Stadium.

Karl Robinson’s hosts are in a wide-open relegation battle that involves at least half of the clubs in League One and although currently in the drop zone, they have been showing lately they will not go down without a fight.

Barnsley and Portsmouth are among the top three clubs in this division and were the two previous visitors to this ground, yet Oxford drew 2-2 with the former and won 2-1 against the latter. Indeed, Oxford are unbeaten in their last four league matches.

Sunderland, who have been relegated in both of the latest two campaigns, are in good shape to go straight back up to the Championship as they sit within striking distance of the automatic promotion places and have games in hand of all the teams above them.

The Black Cats are difficult to beat but have been recording plenty of 1-1 draws recently, including against teams in the bottom half of the table such as Shrewsbury and Scunthorpe.

Jack Ross’ side will have their backers for this game and understandably so, but Oxford will be confident after those strong performances at home and can eke out another point.
