Oxford United vs Ipswich Town Match Preview
Ipswich ended a run of 12 matches without a win by emphatically beating Accrington at the weekend – and that could give them the confidence to follow up away to Oxford.
The Tractor Boys, who are down in League One for the first time in 63 years, were going along superbly this season until November when they suddenly went on a run of draws, and subsequently endured a poor festive period too.
Doubts were expressed about manager Paul Lambert’s future, but those have been laid to rest by the Scot signing a new five-year contract with the Suffolk club who remain only three points off top spot in the table following Saturday’s 4-1 home victory against Accrington.
That means third-placed Ipswich are two points and places above Oxford, with whom Karl Robinson is doing an excellent job as manager and, like their opponents on Tuesday, they have every chance of being promoted this season automatically or via the play-offs.
However, Oxford have lost their last two league games against Doncaster and Rotherham, trailing 3-0 at half-time against the Millers on Saturday, and they look too short here at just a shade of odds-against.
The four goals they put past Accrington should have done Ipswich’s morale a power of good and with a better record on their travels than at home this term (see stats above) they look to represent decent value to bag another valuable three points.
