Nottingham Forest v Bristol City Match Preview

Nottingham Forest begin life under Martin O’Neill in this fixture after he was hired as Aitor Karanka’s successor in midweek fresh after an ultimately disappointing spell in charge of the Republic of Ireland team. He will come in with a reputation at the City Ground though as he is fondly remembered there from his playing days where he was part of the team that won two European Cups under the guidance of Brian Clough and he’ll be hoping to be the man to bring the good times back to this famous club.

It won’t be an easy job for O’Neill though, he arrives in Nottingham to take over a side that have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions. This poor form has seen them slip to ninth in the table and out of the play-off picture for the time being but with the talented squad at his disposal, O’Neill will be keen to ensure he can lead them to a new manager bounce as he goes in search of three points in his opening game here at 23/17 with Unibet.

Bristol City looked like real promotion contenders last season and they even beat Manchester United in the EFL Cup and took Manchester City into injury-time in the semi-finals before their young squad burnt out in the latter stages of the campaign. This year, they didn’t get off to such a good start but better form over the Christmas period has hauled them back into the play-off picture and they come into Saturday’s game in seventh place as things stand.

That run of form has seen the Robins go no fewer than ten games since last tasting defeat and has included impressive victories over the likes of Stoke City and Birmingham City plus Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup. With the top of the table looking as tight as ever, Lee Johnson will be keen to ensure his side continue this fine form into the next game as they travel to the City Ground looking for another win at 21/10 with William Hill.

The bookmakers clearly fancy Nottingham Forest to get off to a winning start under O’Neill, but recent form has been shoddy, particularly in front of goal where they’ve failed to find the net in three of their last four matches. Bristol City on the other hand have gone ten games unbeaten and have only conceded a total of one goal in their last four matches in all competitions. The away win to nil is available at 27/10 with William Hill. If you’re looking for shorter odds, perhaps stick Under 2.5 goals on your weekend acca – this best is available at 13/20 with BetVictor.
