Norway Women vs England Women Predictions
In the early years of the Women’s World Cup, Norway were one of the strongest teams in the competition and they reached the semi-final stage in four of the first five editions of the tournament, even managing to lift the trophy in 1995. Whilst they haven’t been quite at that level in the last few years, they’re still regularly competitive in the tournament and they have one of the youngest squads in France, which bodes well for their future chances.
It could yet still bode well for their chances this year as they’ve reach the quarter final stage for the first time since 2007. Wins over Nigeria and Korea Republic were enough to secure Gresshoppene’s progression through the group stages despite a defeat to hosts France and although they needed penalties to overcome Australia in the Round of 16, the Scandinavians will feel they are more than capable of winning this tie at 11/4 with Bet365.
England have never managed to get their hands on the Women’s World Cup but as advancements are made in the domestic game, the national side is continuing to improve. After reaching the semi-final stage for the first time in their history at the last competition in Canada four years ago, this year they’re hoping to go all the way under the guidance of Phil Neville and they’ve certainly made light work of things so far.
After opening up the tournament with a hard-fought win over rivals Scotland, the Lionesses have gone on to beat Argentina and Japan 1-0 and 2-0 respectively in the group stages before keeping their heads in a heated Round of 16 fixture against Cameroon to progress with a 3-0 victory. Given the quality they have in this squad, it’s no surprise that England are favourites for the victory at odds of 27/25 with 888sport.
I’m anticipating a low-scoring match here. England have been very strong defensively so far in this tournament, keeping three consecutive clean sheets and conceding only once, in their opening match against Scotland. We saw Norway adopt a slightly more defensive approach against Australia in the Round of 16 and with more on the line, that’s only natural as we progress through to the latter stages of the tournament. Under 2.5 goals is priced at 4/5 with Unibet.
England’s quality should see them through here. Defensively, the Lionesses have looked stronger and stronger as the tournament has gone on, with the likes of Alex Greenwood and Steph Houghton in particularly strong form. Norway are a younger, inexperienced side and against this defence that has kept three consecutive clean sheets, I see them struggling to get on the scoresheet. I’m on England to win to nil at 12/5 with William Hill.
