Northern Ireland vs Germany Predictions

Northern Ireland harbour dreams of reaching another major international tournament after their success at Euro 2016 last time around and having come so close to the World Cup in Russia, losing out in their play-off against Switzerland ahead of the tournament. They’ve made a terrific start to this particular qualifying period too, picking up four wins from four to top a very difficult group at this stage.

Given that they’re now half-way through the qualifying period, you could forgive the Green and White Army for getting excited – but that table doesn’t tell the whole story. Those four wins have come against Belarus and Estonia, home and away, and they now have to face the two tougher teams in the group, the Netherlands and Germany, home and away in their final four games. A win here, at odds of  10/1 with Coral is unlikely, but would be hugely important.

Germany made a fine start themselves to this qualifying group, which was much needed after a disastrous UEFA Nations League saw them relegated with just two points from four games against the Netherlands and France. Having been handed the perfect opportunity to gain revenge on their neighbours de Oranje, they responded by winning their opening game of this qualifying section 2-3 in Amsterdam.

That victory against their old rivals was followed up by die Mannschaft with further wins over Estonia and Belarus, but Oranje gained revenge on Thursday night with a 2-4 away win in Hamburg that leaves the group poised in an intriguing position at this half-way stage. With those games against the Netherlands out the way though, Joachim Low’s men will expect to win all four of their remaining games, starting with this trip to Belfast at 3/10 with Bet365.

We’re backing die Mannschaft to do exactly that here, but it won’t be easy. That home defeat to the Netherlands will have dented confidence somewhat, something that Northern Ireland will be full of following their four straight victories to start the campaign plus their 1-0 friendly win over Luxembourg on Thursday. We think the hosts will get on the scoresheet here but still lose, as they did in their World Cup qualifier with Germany two years ago. The away win and both teams to score bet is priced at Coral.

Serge Gnabry has been in fine goalscoring form for his country of late. The Bayern Munich attacker has an incredible eight international goals to his name from just nine caps and scored the opener in that 2-4 defeat at the hands of the Netherlands as well as a brace in the 8-0 thumping of Estonia in the previous fixture. You can back the 24 year old to get on the scoresheet again here at odds of 7/5 with Bet365.
