Nimes vs St Etienne Match Preview
Nimes host St Etienne for their Matchday 8 clash on Sunday afternoon, just days after seeing a 1-0 loss in Montpellier and surely attempting to return to the unbeaten streak we’ve seen beforehand. They’ve been very tough to beat at this ground early in the new campaign and they will want to show off as such once again.
Les Crocodiles have bagged two home wins and two draws away from home in their last four outings, holding off both Monaco (2-2), Dijon (0-0) and securing all three points against Brest (3-0) as well as Toulouse (1-0). They’ve been very solid defensively and the goal at Stade de la Mosson also ended a streak of three clean sheets, which should have them just as motivated to bounce quickly.
St Etienne have been far from their best lately and have a lot to work on still early in the new campaign, having bagged just two points since opening the campaign with a 1-2 win at Dijon. They’ve seen five losses along the way, including thriller clashes at Genk (3-2) and Angers (4-1) last week as well as a 0-1 loss to Metz earlier this week.
Les Verts will now be desperate to finally end the unwanted streak but their inability to keep it together at the back when away from home will be just as worrying. They’ve conceded 12 goals on five trips across competitions and will now have to do more if they’re to cause an upset in Nimes.
We don’t see them making it happen and we’ll now rather back the home side to secure all three points, going for Nimes to win at 11/8 with bet365 as we feel they can capitalize on the visitors’ woes at this point.
However, we expect a very narrow occasion and slim margins making all the difference. We thus don’t feel we’re in for many goals and we’ll go for Under 2.5 Goals FT, which comes at 10/11 with Unibet and looks like a generous pick.
