Newcastle United vs Norwich City Match Preview
Norwich have won three of their last five games and while their recent improvement is unlikely to save them from relegation, they could avoid defeat on this trip to Newcastle.
The Canaries had achieved only three victories all season before January 4 – one of them at home to Newcastle – but have doubled their tally since that date, albeit two of them were in the FA Cup to carry them through to a fifth-round tie against Tottenham or Southampton.
Nevertheless, the signs are more promising for Norwich and the fact the two cup triumphs were away to Preston and Burnley suggests they could well be competitive on Tyneside.
For Newcastle fans there is hope of a different kind, namely that their club may finally be sold soon by Mike Ashley to new Saudi owners and there has even been talk that popular Rafael Benitez could return as manager.
Not that Steve Bruce has done a bad job this term and his team are unbeaten in their last six games, but three of those were in the FA Cup and a strong Magpies side could only draw 0-0 at home to League One club Oxford last weekend.
Newcastle are slightly flattered by their recent record in that three of their last four Premier League points were gained via goals scored deep in stoppage time and they could find Norwich a tough nut to crack here.
