Newcastle United vs Leicester City Match Preview
Leicester City showed they may be emerging from their indifferent spell of results leading up to Christmas when winning away to West Ham on Saturday – and are backed to follow up at Newcastle.
The Foxes remain second in the Premier League table even though they were put firmly in their place by Liverpool and Manchester City either side of Christmas Day, while previously they had been held at home by struggling Norwich.
But it was normal service resumed against the Hammers even though manager Brendan Rodgers chose to rest most of his key players for one game of this hectic festive period, goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Demarai Gray giving Leicester a 2-1 victory.
For Newcastle, however, there has been little to celebrate. They were going along very nicely until the 24th minute of their game away to Manchester United on Boxing Day, when a 1-0 lead began to turn into a 4-1 defeat, and they were then beaten 2-1 at home by Everton.
A place in mid-table is still creditable for the Magpies, however, especially as they are above Arsenal, and there is certainly no immediate threat of relegation trouble which had been the fear at the start of the season.
Both of these teams are usually solid at the back – despite the result of the reverse fixture (see above) – so goals may be in short supply here, but Leicester are expected to do just enough to edge it.
