Newcastle United vs Huddersfield Town Match Preview
Huddersfield’s relegation this season is now completely inevitable – and the confirmation date is likely to be brought forward by another defeat at Newcastle.
The Terriers are 14 points from safety, factoring in goal difference, and there is absolutely no sign of a revival considering their abject form (see stats above).
David Wagner’s departure as manager, replaced by another former Borussia Dortmund junior-team coach in Jan Siewert, has done nothing to improve matters in terms of results, although Huddersfield did perform better in their latest 2-1 home defeat against Arsenal.
They will need a similar level of display to have any chance on Tyneside, but the Yorkshire club’s task is put into perspective by the fact that in Newcastle’s most recent home game they beat Manchester City!
The Magpies will also feel they should have won last time out at Wolves where they conceded a last-gasp equaliser, which was controversial not only for scorer Willy Boly’s challenge on goalkeeper Martin Dubravka but also the amount of stoppage time allowed by referee Graham Scott.
Newcastle remain in relegation trouble themselves in what looks a six-way fight to avoid joining Huddersfield and probably Fulham, and this is an ideal fixture for them to boost their prospects of staying up.
