Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace Match Preview
Goals could be scarce in this game, but Newcastle’s home form is strong enough for them to represent a solid bet to head into Christmas on a victory.
The Magpies have not lost at St James’ Park since the opening weekend of the season, narrowly to Arsenal, with the highlights on Tyneside being a win over Manchester United and a draw with that team’s neighbours City, the reigning champions.
As the stats above outline, resilient defensive displays have been the key for Steve Bruce’s side and therefore they should not be overly concerned by the arrival of Crystal Palace – who are also better at keeping goals out than scoring them.
Palace are on a four-match unbeaten run and have kept back-to-back away clean sheets, while they prevented defeat at home to Brighton on Monday with a terrific late equaliser from Wilfried Zaha.
The Eagles are similar to Newcastle in that they do not have a prolific scorer up front, with Christian Benteke bearing comparison to Joelinton in the sense that his big physical presence outweighs his contribution in terms of goals.
However, Newcastle have scored twice in all of their last three home games and although one goal could be a more realistic return against a resolute Palace side, it may just be enough to secure three points.
