Newcastle United vs Brighton Match Preview
This game could have a bearing on the Premier League relegation issue this season – and Brighton may just prove to be the value on Tyneside for what would be an important victory.
Both clubs have won only one of their five league matches so far, each of those successes coming away from home. Otherwise, they have done little to suggest they can stay away from the dogfight at the bottom of the table.
Brighton’s win came on the opening weekend, 3-0 at Watford in what was a dream result for their new manager Graham Potter in his first match in charge.
His rotated side also grabbed a last-gasp success at Bristol Rovers in the Carabao Cup, but otherwise they have collected only two points from a possible nine at home and lost without scoring to both Southampton and Manchester City.
Newcastle, meanwhile, pulled off a terrific 1-0 win at Tottenham but they remain second favourites to be relegated having avoided defeat in only one of their other four league matches – and that was in a home draw with bottom club Watford, who had lost their previous three fixtures.
There are rarely many goals when these clubs meet and with Brighton holding a good recent record at St James’ Park, they may just be able to snatch what could be a vital three points come the final reckoning in May.
