Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne City Match Preview
Melbourne City travel to Newcastle for their Matchday 26 clash just days after beating Central Coast Mariners (2-4), where they fell behind early in the game but turned it around with goals from Jamie MacLaren (who made it comfortable by completing a hat-trick) and Susaeta.
City now hope to build on the performance and extend a three-match unbeaten streak we’ve seen since Victoria FFA Cup loss to Plenty Valley Lions (4-5). They beat Perth Glory (2-3) and held Western Sydney Wanderers to a 1-1 draw in two exciting games since too and the in-form attacking line will be very motivated to deliver once again.
Indeed, Newcastle Jets saw two comfortable losses to the rivals this term already but they have been in a much better place lately and will want to show it off. They extended a six-match unbeaten streak before seeing a narrow 1-0 loss at Brisbane Road on Friday, where an early goal from Scott McDonald proved enough for the rivals to secure the points.
Jets beat Central Coast Mariners (4-3), Perth Glory (2-1), and Adelaide United (0-3) while also holding Western United (0-0), Western Sydney Wanderers (1-1), and Melbourne Victory (1-1) to draws along the way – which will be a great boost to their confidence under Carl Robinson. However, they should now be in for more of a challenge and we don’t see them up to the task.
We do expect a strong challenge at McDonald Jones Stadium but we feel Melbourne City have what it takes to outgun the rivals and we’ll now go for an Away win, which comes at 7/5 with BetVictor and looks like the best approach to the fixture.
Jets should make their way to the scoresheet this time around, though, and we feel we’re in for a more exciting head-to-head contest here. We’ll thus also go for goals and back Over 2.5 Goals FT at 8/13 with bet365, which has been rated a banker bet by many in the know.
