New Zealand Women vs Netherlands Women Predictions
New Zealand have benefitted from the qualifying structure for the Women’s World Cup in the past, perhaps managing to qualify for the tournament over stronger sides due to the split in regions for qualifying. The Footballing Ferns have achieved qualification to the finals on four occasions, including the last three consecutive World Cup tournaments, only to crash out in the group stages in each and every one of them.
Under the experienced Tom Sermanni, they will be hoping that reputation can change at this summer’s tournament in France. Form on the lead-up to the campaign has been mixed, with victories over England and Norway proving to increase expectations somewhat, only for them to be tempered by defeats to the USA and more recently Wales. The Oceania-based side are out at 10/1 to win the game at Bet365.
The Netherlands had never managed to qualify for the Women’s World Cup until the last edition of the tournament in Canada. De Oranje even managed to impress, qualifying through the group stages at that tournament, but they’ve improved even further since then and in 2017, in front of their own supporters on home soil, they managed to win the European Championships and announce themselves as one of the superpowers of women’s international football.
With confidence high at the moment, Sarina Wiegman come into the World Cup on the back of some great form. Four straight victories over China, Mexico, Chile and Australia will have really boosted the confidence of the Lionesses and they will make the short trip to France expecting to win their group at the very least, starting with three points in Le Havre on Tuesday afternoon at odds of 3/10 with Unibet.
Vivianne Miedema may be the main goalscoring threat in this Netherlands side, but we’re looking at Lyon’s Shanice Van De Sanden in the goalscoring markets here. The 26 year old managed a brace in the final warm-up friendly for her team against Australia and after a season packed with silverware with OL, her confidence will be sky high. We’re backing Van de Sanden to score at any time at 17/10 with William Hill.
With Miedema and Van de Sanden in their ranks, de Oranje should face few problems in getting some goals in this game and they have looked confident going forward in their warm-up fixtures, smashing in ten goals in their final two friendlies before the tournament began. New Zealand won’t be quite as leaky at the back as Chile and Australia were, but they will struggle to compete here and the Netherlands should be able to win this one with a one goal handicap at 4/5 with Bet365.
