New York Red Bulls vs Columbus Crew Predictions
New York Red Bulls won the Supporters Shield last year for the third time and they are always among the front-runners in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference in recent seasons, but they still remain in-waiting for their first ever MLS Cup victory. In the current season, they look set to finish in the play-offs yet again as they currently occupy fourth place in the conference with 22 games on the board.
The Red Bulls have been particularly strong in front of their own fans at the Red Bull Arena in recent weeks, picking up 13 points from the last available 15 with four wins and a draw from their last five games at their home stadium. What’s more, they come into this game on the back of a victory on the road over Orlando City so it’s no surprise that they’re favourites for the win here at odds of 4/6 with William Hill.
Columbus Crew are facing a difficult time both on and off the field at the moment. With many rumours circulating that the franchise could be moved away from the Columbus area and relocated, the side are struggling to compete on the field as well right now and find themselves struggling towards the lower reaches of the Eastern Conference in 11th place with 23 matches on the board at this stage.
The Ohioans won their first away game of the season by taking three points from a trip to New England Revolution but since then they have really struggled to pick up points on the road, losing eight consecutive away fixtures before earning a hard-fought draw with Chicago Fire last time out. The play-off picture is starting to get away from them so can the Crew pick up an important victory here at odds of 4/1 with Unibet.
We’re backing the Red Bulls for all three points here as you would perhaps expect given their home form and the Crew’s form on the road in recent weeks. The hosts are the stronger of the two sides anyway, regardless of form and home advantage, but Columbus are a threat in front of goal through the likes of Gyasi Zardes and Pedro Santos so we’re backing the home win and both teams to score bet at 5/2 with Bet365.
Brian White appears to have taken over the goalscoring mantle from the ageing Bradley Wright-Phillips so far this season for the New York Red Bulls. Having only made his debut for the first team last season, the 23 year old has started the campaign as a regular in the starting eleven and is averaging a goal every two games with seven in 14 so far this term. We’re backing him to get on the scoresheet again here.
