New York City vs Chicago Fire Match Preview
New York City FC have endured a rather difficult start to the Major League Soccer season. In Domenec Torrent’s first full campaign after he joined last year, Pep Guardiola’s former coach has struggled to replicate the kind of form that saw his side finish in 3rd place in the Western Conference last time around as they currently occupy 9th place in the table with seven games on the board so far.
Undoubtedly struggling to cope with the absence of David Villa, who swapped the USA for Japan at the close of the last Major League Soccer campaign and was a real legend with the Bronx Blues after scoring 80 times in 124 MLS appearances, NYCFC did finally manage their first win of the campaign over the weekend with a 0-2 victory at DC United. Brazilian forward Heber scored his first goal in that fixture, can he inspire his side to another three points here at 7/10 with Unibet.
Chicago Fire are hoping to compete for the MLS Cup this year having now gone 21 years without winning the coveted trophy. It seems unlikely for the Illinois based franchise though as they have struggled to compete in recent years and failed to even qualify for the play-offs last season, ending the campaign in 10th spot in the Eastern Conference and fourth from bottom in the overall table despite possessing stars like Bastian Schweinsteiger and Nemanja Nikolic.
The Men in Red look ready to compete more this year though after making no more than nine new signings during the off-season and they’ve started the campaign in some better form, picking up nine points from their opening seven games to currently occupy a play-off spot in the table. Veljko Paunovic’s side make the trip to the Big Apple having not lost in their last four games so they’ll be hoping for another three points here at 9/2 with Bet365.
We’re backing goals in this one. New York City have looked more threatening in attack in their last two games, smashing in five goals against Minnesota United and DC United. Chicago Fire haven’t failed to score in any of their seven MLS fixtures so far this season meanwhile and can call upon the prolific duo of Charles Sapong and Nemanja Nikolic, who already have seven goals to their name so far this term. BTTS is available at a decent 7/10 with William Hill.
Brazilian forward Heber is the man that New York City are looking towards to shoulder the goalscoring burden following David Villa’s departure from the club. The Brazilian forward managed to score 25 goals in just 38 appearances for his previous club, Croatian outfit Rijeka, and he opened his account for the Bronx Blues in that win over DC United in the weekend. He’s our anytime scorer pick here.
