Netherlands Women vs Canada Women Predictions

The Netherlands is a proud footballing nation but it’s women’s team, until more recent years, had struggled to compete with some of the more established sides on the European stage. After qualifying for the World Cup for the first time four years ago and making it through to the knock-out stages, they’re now looking to head into the later stages of this tournament as one of the outside dark horses for the trophy.

It’s been comfortable so far for Leeuwinnen. A 1-0 victory over New Zealand was followed up with a 3-1 win over Cameroon in their second fixture to confirm their route through to the next round and now they’re simply looking for the easiest Round of 16 fixture by winning the group, although they may decide to rest some players here. You can back Sarina Wiegman’s side to end the group stages with maximum points at 7/4 with Unibet.

Canada haven’t failed to qualify for the Women’s World Cup since 1991 but they’ve only managed to make it beyond the group stages on two occasions in those previous tournaments, until now. The Canucks have already secured their route through to the knock-out stages of the 2019 tournament after starting the tournament with back-to-back wins over Cameroon and New Zealand to pick up six points.

Like his Dutch counterpart, Canada boss Kenneth Heiner-Møller faces a dilemma here as this match represents a rare opportunity to rest players as games come thick and fast in the tournament but a victory is likely to set up an easier fixture in the Round of 16 if you can finish top of the group. The bookies have this as a very tight clash with the North American side slight favourites at 17/10 with William Hill.

We’re backing goals in this game. Both sides have found the net in each of their opening games at the tournament so far and both sides possess plenty of attacking quality. The Dutch can call upon Vivianne Miedema, who has 60 international goals to her name already at the age of 22 whilst the Canucks, led by the legendary Christine Sinclair have experience in abundance and that’s why we’re backing BTTS at 3/4 with Ladbrokes.

It’s tough to pick a winner here and as such, we’re agreeing with the bookmakers that this will be a very close-run match. With progression already confirmed for both teams, there’s every chance that a few key players are rested and the game is played out as a draw at odds of 12/5 with Bet365, which would see the Netherlands top the group on goals scored.
