Netherlands vs Germany Match Preview
The Netherlands are rebuilding under Ronald Koeman. It was a very tough few years for the European footballing heavyweight on the back of their semi-final defeat to Argentina at the 2014 World Cup as they failed to qualify for both Euro 2016 and last summer’s World Cup in Russia with Guus Hiddink, Danny Blind and Dick Advocaat all failing to successfully navigate a transitional period with the likes of Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder coming to the end of their careers.
Under Koeman however, de Oranje were far better than expected in a tough UEFA Nations League group, losing only one of their four matches and winning at home against both Germany and France to win the group and set up a semi-final clash with England in Portugal over the summer. Having been drawn against one of the tougher teams in the continent in Germany they’ll be desperate to overcome them and get off to the perfect start here at 7/5 with Bet365.
Germany are suffering from a rather tough period themselves at the moment. Die Mannschaft have always been one of the main candidates for honours on the international stage and they were considered to be among the favourites again this summer before a dreadful group stage showing saw them lose to both Mexico and South Korea and go crashing out at the first hurdle with only a last-gasp win over Sweden as consolation.
The fall-out from that disappointment has been huge with several players signalling their discontent with the regime among the German FA and results in the UEFA Nations League and post-World Cup friendlies haven’t been great, with die Mannschaft picking up just one win in seven fixtures since Russia. Can they pick up a vital victory against their oldest rivals here at odds of 7/4 with William Hill?
We’re backing the goals in this game. In the two UEFA Nations League matches played between these sides at the back end of 2018 we saw a 2-2 draw and a 3-0 win for the Netherlands and although both sides look shaky at the back at times, they both possess very strong attacking line-ups with the hosts calling upon the in-form Memphis Depay and Quincy Promes whilst the visitors boast the likes of Leroy Sane and Timo Werner in their ranks. Over 2.5 goals is available at 8/11 with William Hill.
Lyon forward Memphis Depay has racked up 15 goals for the Netherlands now, including one in the 4-0 win over Belarus in their opening qualifying fixture on Thursday evening and two in the 3-0 victory that de Oranje enjoyed over die Mannschaft in the Nations League. He’s our anytime scorer pick at odds of 11/8 with William Hill.
