Motherwell have made the perfect start to the 2019-20 season and are fully expected to reach the Scottish League Cup knockout stage by making it four wins out of four in Group E.
After contesting two cup finals in 2017-18, last term was rather more mundane for Motherwell but they will be optimistic about their prospects for the new campaign judging by how it has started, with a top-six place in the Premiership being among the obvious targets.
Stephen Robinson’s side received a favourable draw for the group stage of this competition and have made the most of it, beating all three of their lower-division opponents so far comfortably to nil.
But they have one more hurdle to navigate before seeing off the challenge of Greenock Morton for top spot, although the odds for Well to gain the draw or win they need here to secure first position are 1/25.
Annan have been a Scottish League club since 2000 but never promoted from the fourth tier, although they did reach the play-offs last season. They are already out of the Scottish League Cup after drawing one game and losing the other two.
What the Black and Golds do have going for them, however, is a good record of scoring goals away from home in 2019 (see stats above) and while they are likely to lose this game fairly decisively, there could be a consolation in store for them.
