Montreal Impact are rattling through their 2019 MLS fixtures at the fastest rate – and backed to go into a three-week break with a victory over Seattle Sounders.
The Canadian side have already reached the halfway mark of their 34-game regular-season schedule, putting them four matches ahead of some of their rivals. But they will not mind that if they can enter the upcoming hiatus sitting second in the Eastern Conference standings.
That is the position Montreal will occupy if they beat Seattle, at least until Sunday, and they have to fancy their chances because the Sounders have gone right off the boil of late.
It’s the away form that has been the problem for Seattle as they have collected only one point from a possible nine on the road in their last three games, now trailing in the wake of runaway Western Conference leaders Los Angeles FC.
In fairness, it should also be said that Montreal are proving inconsistent and they have failed to score in three of their last four home matches.
However, they are entitled to fancy their chances against a Seattle side who may well be struggling for confidence on their travels and so Montreal are taken to edge a narrow success.
