Montpellier vs Rennes Match Preview
Montpellier host Rennes to open the new campaign in front of the home fans on Saturday evening, where they look to put an unpredictable pre-season behind them and kick-start Ligue 1 in good spirits – having only just missed on a Europa League Qualifiers spot last term.
La Paillade have beaten Girona (0-1) last week and ended a four-match winless streak, where they kept scoring goals but the defensive line led by Vitorino Hilton struggled to retain consistency with a high total of nine goals conceded in four outings beforehand. Michel Der Zakarian still has a lot of work setting up the lines and this could be worrying ahead of the start.
Rennes have, on the other hand, struggled for goals through their pre-season but opened the scoresheet in their Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain – still suffering a 2-1 loss in Shenzhen and now having to look for ways to bounce back at Stade de la Mosson.
The Red and Blacks have shocked many through the last season but still dropped to the mid-table, also seeing two draws in two head-to-head clashes against Marseille. We’ve been used to seeing them as a very tough nut to crack at this ground and we now hope for more of the same despite a disappointing run behind them.
We will thus stick our necks out for the visitors to snatch the spoils as the sides share the spoils in a Draw priced at 11/5 with Unibet, which seems the best approach to the fixture and more than just a lively longshot.
We should see goals and Rennes will have to find the net if they’re to do so, we feel. We’ll thus also back a Yes on Both teams to score at 19/20 with bet365, hoping to see defensive inconsistency on both ends proving costly.
